But you can amplify your browsing experience a little bit by modifying a few settings. Usually you have to optimize Firefox manually, but manually configuring - by typing about: config in the address bar and scroll through the page and setting or altering some options are little bit difficult and time consuming especially for the novice user.
FireTune is a free software application to easily optimize several configuration settings for Firefox. Optionally, you can also install phpMyAdmin as a front end for MySQL. We assume that you already have Ubuntu 7.10 running on the machine as well. That said, let's get right into it. The first thing we're going to do is open up a terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal).

Installing Apache
Now we can get started installing. This will take a few minutes, so grab a beer (or your favorite beverage,) and off we go. To install Apache, type or paste this into your terminal:

sudo apt-get install apache2

Testing Apache
Once apache2 is done installing, you can go ahead and test it by using:

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 start

If you get a message that it's already running, you're good to go. Now, open up your browser and navigate to:

http://localhost
.

You should see a page just like this. As long as you do, we're ready to install PHP.

Installing PHP
Again, to install PHP, type or paste this into your terminal:

sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5

Once it's finished installing, restart apache, using:

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Testing PHP
Now, let's make sure that PHP is working properly. To do this, we're going to run phpinfo(). You can, of course, swap out gedit with your editor of choice.

sudo gedit /var/www/phpinfo.php

Type or paste the following into the document, and save it. (remove the space before the '?php')

< ?php phpinfo(); ?>

Now we can test PHP by browsing to:

http://localhost/phpinfo.php

You should see all of the info about your PHP installation listed on the page, like so. For security reasons, you should remove this page when you're sure that PHP works.

Installing MySQL
Now we can conquer MySQL

sudo apt-get install mysql-server

As MySQL is installing, it will ask you to configure your root password. Make sure that you type it correctly, as it will only ask you once.

Testing MySQL
After that is finished, you can test MySQL by running this, where zzzz is your password

mysql -uroot -pzzzz

If it brings you to a MySQL prompt, you're done! You can type exit to get out of MySQL.

Installing phpMyAdmin
Now, if you want to install phpMyAdmin to have a front end for MySQL, you can use the following

sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-auth-mysql php5-mysql phpmyadmin

It will ask you to choose a webserver to configure automatically, you can use the space bar to select Apache2. And after that's finished, restart one last time.

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Finished!
Now you have your own LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) server, with phpMyAdmin.

Useful Commands and Default Locations
To Save yourself some time, you can make launchers for Apache or MySQL start, stop, and restart if you feel the need.

Apache

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 start

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 stop

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

MySQL

sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start

sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop

sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart

Locations

/var/www/ -- Document Root

http://localhost/phpmyadmin -- phpMyAdmin

/usr/share -- phpMyAdmin local location

Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-79238620620289033302008-06-23T07:17:00.000-07:002008-06-23T07:20:39.948-07:00Increase Your Wi-Fi Signal

Currently my office is located in a duplex building (concrete floors) that houses several shops, storage areas, a restaurant and other office space. I am using a Netgear DG834 router for my wireless internet access, but have been having problems with it.

Basically the router seems to have issues with the floors and walls. As I am involved with several projects I am needed in different parts of the building, so having my laptop and an internet connection is essential. The problem is, the Netgear DG834 signals dies outside a 20 meter radius. That sounds crazy, but it’s true. I guess it just doesn’t like our steel-reinforced concrete floors and all the shop rails.

So, I have fiddled about with the router and have come up with a few ways of boosting the WiFi signal. Some of these are worth trying, some of them are obviously not going to look very professional.

Strategic positioning - Say you want to cover a floor with WiFi. There’s no point having your wireless access point in the corner of the room because the area that it can then distribute a signal to is much reduced. Instead, plan out where you want to cover and work out where the best place is to station your router. If you have a nice big open, flat office space then I would recommend setting up the router in the middle of the floor. This way the omni-directional antenna (an type of antenna that radiates the signal) can distribute more evenly over a greater area. In a duplex situation, placing the router on a ceiling in the middle of the building is a good way to radiate the signal further and stronger.

Mount the router on the wall - My WiFi coverage was at it’s worst when I had my router sitting at the back of my desk. If you want to boost the signal, a cheap and easy way to do so is to simply wall-mount the thing. This will increase the distance between it and all the possible interference around your computer.

Buy an antenna - There are a multitude of booster antennas on the market at very reasonable prices. The idea is that you plug them into your router then direct the signal in a certain direction, in my case, up through the floor to where I needed more coverage. Try using a high gain (gain is the measure of how well the signal is focussed) directional antenna to increase the range and strength of a network in the direction pointed.

Add extra access points - One of the ways that really helped boost my WiFi signal was by adding an extra access point in the upper floor of the building. I chose the Airport Express from Apple, but then I am a bit of an Apple geek … so what else could I do? The Airport Express also allows you to hook up to a Hi-Fi and stream songs to it from iTunes, as well as being able to hook up to a USB printer.

Try a repeater - If you don’t want to spend on an extra access point, then try a repeater. What a repeater does is receive the WiFi signal, then repeat it, hence the name. But it means that the repeater must be inside the range of the WiFi network, otherwise it won’t receive a signal in the first place. Linksys, Netgear and Belkin all make repeaters, and they’re typically quite affordable. The added extra is that they do not require an extra cabling as they receive the signal wirelessly, instead of via an Ethernet cable.

Add a powerline extender - Netgear now have a range of powerline extenders that send a signal via a powerline, instead of over an Ethernet cable. Plug one into your router and another into a power socket in a poorly covered area, set it up and away you go. Just be sure that you are all on the same circuit, otherwise it will not work.

And now for some of the more wacky / DIY options.

Homemade Pringles antenna - Eat a packet of Pringles (ready salted would be my choice) then follow this tutorial to convert it into a functioning directional antenna. Point it where you need a signal boost.

Airport Express & kitchen sieve - Take an Airport Express and set it into a common metallic kitchen sieve to boost it’s signal further.

Try a parabolic dish - Hawking make a 802.11 B/G parabolic dish that basically pulls in a WiFi signal, performs some magic and boosts your range by up to 300%! It only costs $80 and it has a cool retro style.

Cantenna - This is basically a pro version of the Pringles tin hack. For $50 you can buy a Cantenna that plugs into your router and extends your WiFi signal. It also looks cool.

Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-5968295024136928802008-06-23T07:16:00.000-07:002008-06-23T07:17:17.400-07:00Schedule uTorrent to seed or Download at a give time periodThere are two ways to do this:

1. WinXP scheduler

In a MSDOS box (You get it by typing "cmd" in the START & RUN links).
Once in the black CMD window you can type > AT ? or AT help
This will show you the help on how to use AT command.
But this is not a good option.

2. uTorrent scheduler
This is the best option.
You go to the scheduler option via:

Preference => Scheduler

There you have to check the "Enable Scheduler" box.
Below it you have 7 sets of 24 "green" boxes.
Each of the 7 rows corresponds to a day from Monday to Sunday.

Each of the boxes corresponds for an hourly time line, starting from 00 am to 11 PM (or 0:00 h to 23:00 h.

By default they are green => which means "Full Speed Seed"

In your case if you want to seed from 2 am to 8 am daily :

Click in the 3rd to 8th box till it is green and turn the rest to White. (See Screenshot below).

You can adjust the UL & DL speed there too.
This will do the job lots smarter for you .

By default you will have to leave your PC ON for this.

There is also an option to start utorrent automatically when your PC boots up:

In uTorrent "Preferences":
=> General Window
- At the bottom of the pane you will see "Windows Integration".
Check the "Start uTorrent On System Startup".

It will start and DL or UL any torrents that was in it the last time you closed it.

You can also program the BIOS setup and set in the CMOS the time at which you want your PC to boot UP.
This is available in most today's PC. Check the document that comes with your PC or Motherboard for seting this Option.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-43709136080039998042008-06-23T07:13:00.001-07:002008-06-23T07:15:59.844-07:00Recover Scratched CD's And DVD'sDon't you feel like crying every time you add another disc to your pile of scratched discs. Trashing that disc which contained your favorite songs, pics, files, games or videos is not easy.

Read-on, if you find yourself wishing for a miracle every time your fav CD is scratched:

Home Remedy :

Here's an easy home remedy, which might give you the desired results. Rub a small amount of toothpaste on the scratch and polish the CD with a soft cloth and any petroleum-based polishing solution (like clear shoe polish). Squirt a drop of Brasso and wipe it with a clean cloth.

Technology To The Rescue :

There are many softwares available on the net, which enable the recovery of the CD data. BadCopy Pro is one such software, which can be used to recover destroyed data and files from a range of media.

Just a few clicks is all it requires to recover the disc from almost all kind of damage situation; be it corrupted, lost data, unreadable or defective.

DiskDoctors is another popular company, which offers both software and solutions to recover data from a scratched CDs and DVDs.

General Tips:

* Always wipe the CD from the center outward with stratight spoke-like strokes. Wiping CDs in circles will create more scratches.

* Do not scratch the graphics layer as you cannot repair the disc.
HINT: Hold the disc up to a light with the graphics layer facing the light source. If you can see light thru the scratches at any point then the disc may be irreparable and or exhibit loading or playing errors.

* Clean your Disc players lens regularly with a suitable product to ensure optimal viewing pleasure.

* Make sure to use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean both sides of the disc. Wipe in a straight line from the centre of the disc to the outer edge.

* If wiping with a cloth does not remove a fingerprint or smudge, use a specialized DVD disc polishing spray to clean the disc.

* Only handle the disc by its outer edge and the empty hole in the middle. This will help prevent fingerprints, smudges or scratches.

Statistics:

* Fingermarks/prints cause 43% of disc problems!
* General wear & tear causes 25% of disc problems!
* Player-related issues cause 15% of disc problems!
* User-related issues cause 12% of disc problems!
* PlayStation 2 machine scratches cause 3% of disc problems!
* Laser rot (a manufacturer error) causes 2% of disc problems!

Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-33169514459672723032008-06-22T10:27:00.001-07:002008-06-22T20:26:01.229-07:00Best Music Torrent Tracker
The Best Music Torrent Tracker

<h2 style="margin: 0px; So here we go:

The only tool you need is DVD Decrypter and its a freeware ;/

Follow these simple steps:

.Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-24099332843118082232008-06-22T10:19:00.000-07:002008-06-22T10:21:10.638-07:00Joining avi filesVirtualDub-You need this excellent tool to join two AVI files together.
Pls google for the download link!

Note: This will not work for files that have different framerates, codecs or resolutions. The idea is that we will add the two files together quickly without having to do any re-encoding.

Step. 1 - File --> Open Video File

Launch VirtualDub and open the first AVI file in the sequence of videos you want to join by selecting File--> Open video file.
Step. 2 - Open First AVI file

Find the first AVI file, select it and then click Open. You will now see it open in VirtualDUB. If the program says it's unable to locate a decompressor, then you will have to find the appropriate codec. I recommend you install FFDShow.

Step. 3 - Scroll to the end of the file

Drag the slider straight to the end of the video stream. Make sure it is set on the very last frame.

Step. 4 - File --> Append AVI Segment

Now after you have made sure the last frame is selected, click File --> Append AVI Segment and the File Browser will pop up again.

Step. 5 - Open Second AVI file

Locate the second AVI file, select it and click Open, the second file should now be added to the end of the first file. Now this is where you will get problems if you have file with separate framerates, resolutions or codecs.

Step. 6 - Video --> Direct Stream Copy

Now we have to make sure that you don't end up with decompressed Video (which would probably result in a file 100's of GB's in size). Click Video --> Direct Stream Copy. This is very important, do not forget this.!

Step. 7 - Audio --> Direct Stream Copy

Just as we had to with Video, we just have to make sure that you won't wind up with uncompressed Audio (LPCM). Click Audio --> Direct Stream Copy. This is very important, do not forget this!

Step. 8 - File --> Save As AVI

Now you are ready to save an AVI file. Click File --> Save As AVI, select where you want to save a new AVI file and then it will only take a few minutes at most to save it.

Finally

Hopefully this will have helped you to join two AVI files together. If you have any problems or questions, please post it..

Comments r welcomed... ;).Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-19071648025084908662008-06-22T10:17:00.000-07:002008-06-22T10:18:58.882-07:00combine 2 full dvd's in oneStarting with v 3.0 DvdReMake can be used to combine 2 full dvds (DvdReMake Pro - 4 dvds) together so that they can be burned on one dvd disk. This means FULL - keeping original menus, languages, everything.

Procedure is completely automated, you simply import disks you would like to merge, go to "Tools\Merge DVD..." menu and select projects to be merged. As a result you will get a new project. Export it and you have two disks merged to one DVD.

When played this disk will show a start up menu asking what disk you would like to go to; after that selected disk will play as if it is the only one on the DVD. At any time during playback pushing "title menu" on the remote will take you to this start up menu.
Why?

Why would one want to put two (and more) full DVDs on one disk? Well, there could be plenty of reasons. This guide is based on one of them.

There were two DVDs made out of footage shot during vacations. Those were different trips with more then a year interval between them, so quite naturally they ended up on different DVDs. Another year latter, during one of the family "get-togethers", relatives found these disks and decided that they must have it as well. Why not?

But original disks were quite small, about 2Gb, and they both would fit nicely to one DVD. There was no point in wasting blanks so DvdReMake Pro was used to merge them.

Step-by-step description of the procedure

Disks are ripped to the hard drive and imported into DvdReMake (Pro). Importing dialog title "Select directory for DVD import" can be somewhat confusing. It is necessary to get into folder with files you want to import and then push "Select".

Once disks are imported go to "Tools/Merge DVDs?" ?

? and select projects you want to merge:

Hit "Merge" and in few seconds project with merged disk is ready:

That is it, you can export now.

Whole thing took less than 30 seconds to import and merge disks and about 15 minutes to export merged project. You can burn it now with your favorite DVD burning application. .Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-81157926918838376322008-06-22T10:16:00.000-07:002008-06-22T10:17:04.582-07:00Rip A VcdAll you need is Isobuster Just follow these simple steps!

And here is the rest of it.Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-37128184012928311602008-06-22T10:14:00.000-07:002008-06-22T10:37:29.577-07:00Make RingtonesI will try to go step by step and post screenshots along every step,so it would be easier for new members to follow....

Hopefully, this could be some kind of help to you guys!!!

Step 1 - Power Mp3 cutter :

It's a VERY easy software to use, from which u can cut ur favorite part from ur song!!! It's also very small in size!!!

First of all,drag & drop ur mp3 file in it,than set a begin and an end and you will end up having ur favorite segment....{see screenshots}

1-Setting a begin:

3 - Processing:

PS1 : Don't try to directly convert it into .wav format becoz there is no specifications in this application for this, you will end up with a large file size!!

PS2 : As you can see, I left the bitrates "same as source file" ,but you can adjust the bitrates (which will result in a small file size)!!you have to check which bitrates suites ur mobile the most!!

4 - Favorite Part/Segment:

PS1 : As you can see , i ended up with a segment with 28 seconds long...choose the duration you want, but no one needs a tone with a length more than 50 secs!!!

PS2 : I advise to tick the "fade out" effect ,it will give a better end for ur tone.

PS3 : For users who uses mp3 format as ringtone,i guess the job ends here...all you have to do is to send it to ur mobile!!

Step 2 - Fairstars Audio Converter:

Also an easy & friendly application to use, which will allow you to convert ur favorite segment mentioned above to wav. format!!!

Open the application and drag & drop ur segment into it....

You will see the specifications of ur segment (mp3) & its file size,just select "convert to wav" {See screenshots}

1 - Input:

2 - Bitrates Specifications:

<img style="width: 526px; What makes it different than other competitors in the same program category is that it's by far the most simple one (select source file, destination file and click start!) as well as the faster one (the only program in this category that can claim to be faster is WinAVI).

Also its big advantage is that it's free, so you can just download the full version from our downloads section here. Unfortunately 0.5 is the latest free version, as Vso Software has decided to add many new features and make DivXToDVD a commercial program. However this free version is still available and will always be, and when the paid one comes out we'll be the first to write a guide and review it so that you'll know if it's worth it to upgrade.

Until then, enjoy this nice free version and the guide below!

This is the main (and only!) window of DivXToDVD that contains all the settings that need to be set in order to start your conversion. Lets take a closer look to them.
First of all you need to select the movie you want to convert by click the first folder-like icon (1). You can select as many video files as you want and they will be converted to DVD in order of selection. After you select the source files, you need to set the destination folder (2). Make sure there are more than 5GB free in the hard disk you are going to use.
Now if you are sure for the aspect (3) and the standard - format (4) of the files you are converting you can try selecting them to be sure, but usually automatic works just fine. If you have CopyToDVD installed it would be a good idea to select "Burn with CopyToDVD" so that it burns your DVD right after the conversion has finished.
CopyToDVD is a nice DVD burning tool from Vso Software. You can have a look at its guide here. If you don't have a burning tool you can consider it an excellent and cheap choice that will burn quality DVD and CD discs. If you use another DVD burning program instead, just leave this option blank.
Now everything should be set, so you can click Convert (6) for the conversion to start.

This is how DivXToDVD will look after the conversion starts. As stated before, the conversion speed is excellent. For a 2 hour movie, it needed a little more than 50 minutes to convert. As we have selected Burn with CopyToDVD after the conversion is complete the burning process starts.

CopyToDVD will ask you to select the right burner (if you have more than one in your system). Do so, then put a blank media inside, and the burning starts! A few minutes later your new DVD video disc is ready!

The biggest advantage DivXToDVD has is the amazing conversion speed. In most cases an hour will be enough to turn an AVI file into a DVD video disc, a process that with other programs can take more than 3-4 hours. (with the exception of WinAVI, as we already said, which is as fast as DivXToDVD). Also it's very simple, something positive for newbies. However many users would like more features (like DVD menus, custom chapters, double pass). I guess that the first commercial version will be much improved, but until that happens download and try this free one, you won't lose!.Don't forget to subscribeMohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-27161505526867345282008-04-11T03:26:00.001-07:002008-04-13T18:29:17.594-07:00How To Encode Movies To 350mb

This is a tutorial to encode the your movies so that you can reduce the size using h264 codec. GetUSB.info put together an excellent tutorial on how to run a mobile iTunes Library from a USB stick or hard drive. This method will run the entire iTunes application from the storage device, making it easy to manage iTunes libraries from a single location. I believe this is how iTunes should have be developed. Having a library specific for each computer is a frustrating way to enjoy your music if you use multiple computers everyday (ie. work, home, laptop, etc.).

What pushed Greg from GetUSB.info over the edge, was his wife wanting to purchase music from iTunes at work and then sync up iTunes with her computer at home. Typically this is done by purchasing the music and downloading directly to the iPod. But his wife is a CPA and travels from location to location for audits and doesn't even use the same computer all the time. The solution was to run iTunes from a USB flash drive so she could just manage a single Library.

It's worth mentioning this does not get around the five license authorization for running iTunes purchased music, rather this is a method to manage your iTunes library from a single location for multiple computers.

Here is a quick summary so you know what you are getting into:

Create an autorun file for the USB drive

Create a batch file to auto-launch iTunes from any computer

Install iTunes on the USB stick

Install iTunes on any computer to run from the USB drive

Of course this method also works for larger storage hard drives - basically anything that appears as a Mass Storage Device on your PC system. Simply double click the 'iTunes_mobile.bat' file. If you are missing the song ratings on the USB drive, go back into the PC iTunes and run an 'Export Library' which creates an xml file. In the USB drive iTunes run the 'Import Library' feature to read in the xml file - your ratings should be restored.

Step 5: Checking the Autolaunch

At this point you probably haven't disconnected the USB drive. There are some people that prefer the look of Internet Explorer to the way Firefox looks (though I've never met one). So, I've created this simple How To guide that shows you just what needs to be done to get Firefox looking just like IE. The goal of this project is mainly to demonstrate the power of Firefox's themes and extensions in making the browser work the way you want it to. There's even a pre-built profile for Firefox Portable.

Why? In the name of all that is good and righteous... WHY??

Since a couple people seem to think I must be going over to the dark side, let me give a few reasons:

Because I could. Because it was there

As a challenge to see how fully Firefox could be altered to look like IE without actually hacking any code

To show how easy it is to make Firefox look the way you want it to

To hopefuly get a few people to realize that "I like the way it looks/feels" is not a good reason to keep using IE

So, for anyone who asks... NO, I am not suggesting anyone do this to trick someone into thinking they are still using IE. No, I don't use this myself. No, I don't really think it's a good idea to have Firefox looking like IE as I personally find Firefox' default toolbar layout far more user-friendly (and screen real estate-friendly). And, YES, I still think Internet Explorer should be removed, placed in the corner and set on fire. Thanks for reading. :-)

Step 1: The Theme

The first thing we need is an Internet Explorer Theme. The best one that's currently updated for Firefox 2.0 is the Looks Familiar theme over at addons.mozilla.org:

Install the Looks Familiar theme

Select to use the theme and restart Firefox for the changes to take effect

Step 2: The Icons

The next thing we need are window icons that look like Internet Explorer's:

Download the Firefox Internet Explorer Icons Pack and unzip it to your Firefox program directory (typically C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ for regular Firefox of PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox for Firefox Portable). It will create the necessary directories within the chrome directory and copy the icons to them.

Restart Firefox for the changes to take effect

Note: To uninstall the icons, just delete the icons directory within the chrome directory in your Firefox program directory.

Step 3: The Toolbar Layout

The next thing we need to do is to adjust the layout of the buttons on the toolbar to mimic Internet Explorer:

Right-Click on the toolbar and select Customize

Click Add New Toolbar and call it Address Toolbar

Drag the address bar and Go button from their normal position onto the new (blank) Address Toolbar

Drag the Search Box off of the toolbar onto the buttons window to remove it

Drag the stop button to the left of the refresh button

After the Home button, place a seperator, then the Bookmarks button, then the History button, then another seperator, then the print button

You should now have a Toolbar that looks like this:

Step 4: Window Title

If you wish to complete the look and change the application from Mozilla Firefox to Microsoft Internet Explorer, just follow these steps:

Download the Firesomething 1.7 (Hacked for Firefox 2.0) Extension by right-clicking this link and saving it to your desktop

Select File and then Open in Firefox and open the file you just saved

Install the extension as usual and restart Firefox

Go to the Firesomething options window (Tools - Addons - Extensions - Firesomething - Options)

Delete all the Vendors, Prefixes and Names (right-click Select All, right-click delete in each field)

Enter Microsoft in Vendors and click Add (or enter Mozilla for fun)

Enter Internet Explorer in Names and click Add

Check off "Use the same generated name in..." and click OK

Close the extensions window

Step 5: Miscellaneous Features

Internet Explorer differs from Firefox in the ways that it handles a few things. If you prefer the IE way of doing things, here is how to get Firefox to work the same way.

Favorites Menu

You can have Firefox show a Favorites menu tied to the local favorites by using the Plain Old Favorites extension. You can also hide the bookmarks menu by using the Menu Editor Extension.

Allow Copy/Paste

By default, Firefox doesn't let JavaScript perform copy and paste operations for security reasons. Unfortunately, this makes using some scripts like WYSIWYG editors a bit less convenient. You can enable the clipboard on specific sites to overcome this issue.

IE Tab

You can add the ability to visit specific sites within Firefox using the Internet Explorer browser rendering engine by using the IE Tab extension. Even sites like Windows Update will work.

Default Links

You can even add in the default links from Internet Explorer to fully complete the look if you'd like. Just create bookmarks to each of these links and place them on the Links toolbar in the following order.

Best of the Web

Channel Guide

Customize Links

Free Hotmail

Internet Start

Microsoft

Windows Media

Windows Update

Windows

You can also set www.msn.com as your homepage... and the transformation is complete.

Known Issues

If you have more than one window open and you have Windows XP set to group similar taskbar buttons, the group will be labeled Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. This is because Windows pulls the name for groups from the actual EXE.

Considerations

If you're using these instructions to replace Internet Explorer with Firefox on a non-techie's computer where they don't like the Firefox interface, I would recommend not altering the Window Title or icons. That way, you can still tell which one is Firefox and which one is Internet Explorer... but browsing will feel the same.

Firefox Portable Profile 2.0

Is that Portable Internet Explorer? No, but it's close. This pre-built profile can be dropped into Mozilla Firefox - Portable Edition to make it look just like Internet Explorer. Just download the Portable Firefox Internet Explorer profile and unzip it to the profile directory of Firefox Portable after deleting the current contents (Usually FirefoxPortable\Data\profile). You will also need to download the icon package and unzip that to the FirefoxPortable\App\firefox directory if you want the Internet Explorer Icons. This profile is for Firefox Portable 2.0.
via johnhaller

Mohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-88665279774030342982007-03-13T21:00:00.000-07:002007-03-13T21:09:26.519-07:00Convert WMV to MP4
I have several movies available in Windows Media WMV format. I want to convert the files for playback on PSP and iPod. What can I use to convert WMV to MP4?

If you edit movies using Windows Movie Maker or simply saved a bunch of video in WMV format, there's no direct conduit to getting videos to your PSP or iPod. Sony added WMA support to the PSP sometime back and it would be great to see WMV support if only because Windows Movie Maker is installed with every copy of Windows XP and ultimately Windows Vista. In the meantime, there are a handful of options for converting WMV files to MP4 files compatible with both PSP and iPod devices.

The easiest solution I've found for this conversion process is PSP Video 9 from Videora. It includes a number of settings compatible with both the PSP and iPod. PSP Video 9 automatically names files in a way recognized by the PSP and creates a .THM thumbnail file for each movie. While you might be tempted to use an h.264 encoding profile for iPod owners, using one of the PSP compatible settings will get you a file that looks good in both places, which saves time over creating a PSP specific file and iPod specific file.

Note: PSP Video 9 will pass WMV files through an AVISynth (*.avs) profile during conversion.

If you happen to be a Nero user, I highly recommend Recode as a solution for converting video to MP4. Like most of the products in the Nero family, Recode doesn't have the most intuitive user interface on the planet, but the video conversion feature is rock solid. In general you can keep the default audio and video settings, but as you step through the wizard, be sure to check the box next to Expert Mode in the Nero Digital Settings, and check the Simple profile (QuickTime compatibility) under Advanced options, which is acutally to insure PSP compatibility not QuickTime.

You will need to rename your video file to something compatible with the PSP naming scheme before transferring the file to your PSP.
Mohammed Tabraiz Alihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789667040452351814noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34929565.post-30485445598571147552007-03-13T04:35:00.001-07:002007-03-13T04:35:54.354-07:00How To Download Deleted YouTube Videos

I was looking at this website, which purports to show you deleted YouTube videos, and while I didn’t find it that useful (since it mostly shows random videos and is slow to load), I did find out how it gets at these deleted videos. Turns out that in some cases, even after the video dissapears due to copyright or nudity problems, YouTube will still have the .FLV (Flash video) file available on its servers. If you have the URL of the missing vid, replace the video ID (the string of gibberish) in this URL:

http://v136.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=[video_id_goes_here]

Pretty cool, right?
